Bladesister – Live in Concert!

DGS Games Bladesister in Blue

Over the Labor Day weekend, we traveled south to do something I haven’t done in many years. I attended a convention. Wait, didn’t I go to Photocon this year? Yes, I did. But this was not about photography. This was a gaming convention! What was once a twice-a-year pilgrimage to any place with miniatures and games had become a very long drought. After having recently won a story-writing contest that put one of DGS Games’ Karadel Bladesister models in my possession, I knew it was time to do some catching up.

Reaper OrcsIt had been a rough week and we almost cancelled the trip. We had already paid for tickets and a hotel room. The road ahead is looking rough, so I decided I needed this mini-vacation to help settle my mind. We perused miniature and game vendor’s wares, played a couple of games, talked with old friends, and made a few new ones. We even took a miniature painting class together.

When I regularly attended gaming conventions, photography was always a part of it for me. Inspired by a fresh convention, I spent a little time to set up a mini-session (pun intended) of sorts. I’ve seen a lot of wedding ring shots taken in a certain way that I felt would translate well to miniatures. Choosing this amazing, custom-modified Bladesister, I experimented with colors, angles, and more.

We sat in on a demo game and, later, got a booth demo on how the basic rules work. I learned that the volunteer that was helping us along the way was the painter behind this specific model. What a kick to meet the artist behind the model that helped inspire the journey!

Where do you go to get away from the every day? What hobbies do you have that help you “reset” for the next adventure?

  1. Really like the last picture here- great lighting! I hate how I’m starting to get the itch for these miniatures, but they are so dang cool!! Great blog entry.

  2. I’ve been painting miniatures for a while now. I still have some of the relatively ancient Ral Partha minis originally cast in the 70’s. By far, my favorites growing up were the Lord of the Ring’s figurines produced as Mithril Miniatures. They even came pre-primed! As far as fantasy figures go, I have found very few that match the detail AND realism of DGS Games. They get better with every release. I’m biased, but I can still be a big fan, too, right?
